Another
flying season is upon us. Hurrah! It looks like my hopes for having a
personal flying season might be short circuited however. Management has
lots of plans for me to be in Dumas Arkansas and Warrenton Missouri this
summer. Well then it looks like I’ll just have to make the most
of whatever flying I do, but you guys might not see my ugly face much.
What’s
been on the bench this winter.
I asked our
newly elected president this question after the monthly meeting and his
reply was a classic. Not a darn thing. He did follow up on that by
saying he had purchased Derek a Firebird Freedom. It’s a cute little
delta tail electric with a wingspan of 50" and an anti crash technology.
You can view it at

Next up was
Roger. He told me he needed to build a kit to while away his time in
Texas so he purchased a ¼ scale SIG Spacewalker. He powered it with an
OS 120 4 stroke. He also made the best deal I’ve heard of this year. A
buddy of his crashed a 9 ½ foot D18. Now I’m uncertain whether it was a
Jodel D18 or a Twin Beech D18. But the story goes that the owner said he
had had all the fun he could get out of the aircraft and gave it to
Roger, complete with the engine, retracts and coreless Futaba servos.
Roger had the fuselage put back together in time to show the gentleman
for their next club meeting!
Barry said
he had built 5 or 6!!! The first one he mentioned was a CG Edge 560
profile with an OS 50SX hung on the front. Next is a Great Planes Stick
in both the 40 and the 60 sizes, a GP Sportster in the 40 size and
finally an Uproar 40. All ARFs. Barry’s been a busy man.
Vance said
he built his Barber shop over the winter. Come on Vance isn’t that just
a little hard to fly?
Les is
building a Dynaflight Fly Baby and he’s building a sea plane that I
can’t remember the name of at the moment, but I’m sure I’ll see it at
the field.
J
The sad thing is Les sent me some pictures of his new builds and now I
can’t find them. I could blame it on having a senior moment ‘cept my
mother-in-law says I’m not old enough yet! That’s about the only darn
thing I’m not old enough for.
Jerry is
building a Duraplane Dura Stick that sounds like a lot of fun. You
really should ask him just how many duplicate aircraft he has. The
answer just might make your jaw drop! I know it did mine.
J
Dale’s been
building another Dazzler and he has an unfinished Pica Duelist plus a
Cessna 182 ARF he showed during this winter. His building been really
affected by his health problems.
Dick’s been
busy building two Clancy Lazy Bee’s one is a 20 size with a 40" wing
span. The other is a 40 size with a 60" wing span. Dick has also been
having some health problems.

Finally I’m
still finishing the same SIG Somethin Extra and covering a Bridi Kaos 60
that I started on last fall or the fall before that! I did purchase a
new transmitter; it is a Polk Hobbies’ Tracker III. This is an 8
channel, fully synthesized model with a built in frequency scanner. It
has a 5 year warrantee and 99 model memories. It is selling for $180.00
which includes a $60.00 6 channel fully synthesized receiver, so the
transmitter alone is $120.00! There were reports of people having some
teething problems with the first 200 sold; a wire cable assembly to the
gimbals was too short. They’ve sold over 2000 units so I thought I’d try
one. It is under radio systems on the bottom left.

Next
meeting is at the field or Ken’s
if it’s too cold or the weather is just too nasty May 11th –
7PM.
