Dumas
I think I may have follow my Uncles advice and just rent an apartment down there.  I’ve made two trips last month.  I’ll be gone this week (tomorrow) from Wednesday till Saturday and next week for the same schedule too.  So you’ll have to find someone else to take the meeting minutes. In August I’ve allotted another three weeks to do a robot installation.  It’s gotten so bad I even have a desk to use with my own phone number!   Still I have to say I feel blessed in that I really like my job but it sure cuts into my free time.

Computer radios

I’ve heard that a couple of members said they’ll never have another computer radio!  Seems they can’t keep the number on the display related to the airplane they are flying.  I’ve a solution.  Buy a Polk Tracker III.  I’m very happy with mine.  It lets you assign a name as well as a number to the airplane.  It is an eight-channel radio made for the everyday flyer with a price to match.  I flew the stick with only one section of antenna extended for 3 minutes or so until I happened to notice it!   It’s a fully synthesized all channel transmitter and although it basic receiver channel assignments mimic Futaba or Hitec you can also set it up to mimic JR’s receiver channel assignments.  It has a built in scanner that will not let you transmit on a channel that is being used.  It has 99 model memories, 7 programmable mixes, dual rates and exponential.  Pretty good deal for $200.00.

Busted

Dale told me Les and Russ have both lost airplanes.  It is really hard to write about stuff at the field since I’m not there much.  So I guess I’ll have to ask for helper to rat out their fellow members (inmates in the asylum).  Send me an e-mail or call 231 777-8513 and leave a message if I don’t pick up.

I did get down to the field yesterday morning.  I brought my Venus 40 with me. There was a man with his grandchildren flying electrics.  I’m going to have to get me one of those.  They look like so much fun.  Dale stopped by and it was great to chat with him.  He is feeling much better but impatient with the amount of time it’s taking to get back to his old irascible self.

I hadn’t flown the Venus since I put it on the new Polk transmitter, but I had set the throws the same so I wasn’t too worried about it.  Took off with the wind blowing right down the runway.  Opps a little off keeps wanting to dip its left wing tip.  Okay let’s get it sorted out.  That’s better 3 clicks is about right.  Wow I’ve got it on low rates and it is a handful – too much aileron throw.  What the heck lets try a knife edge.  Hmm not too bad, I think I’ll go inverted yup ah heck the nose is down and I’m too low I think I’ll roll out of it.  S**t way too much roll – damn can’t seem to get it upright.  WHOOPS.  Well that’s one landing I’m glad Barry didn’t see to rate.  Dale –> It went behind the trees between the two tall ones by the corner.  The grand kids came over and said we will help you find it mister.  Well to make a long story short I did not find it.  Though I did scratch the heck out of my legs since I was wearing shorts!  Dale said he’d round up some guys and try to find it for me.  I went home and told Theresa I’d lost the plane.  About 7 PM Theresa got a phone call from Dale that he had the plane though it would now fit into a postage mail box!  I gave him a call and went over to pick it up.  Dale told me he had called Tom Mauer and Tom said he would be happy to look for it.  Tom called Jerry and took his boys and they went out looking.  Well they found it across the fence line.  I thought it was closer in and had only looked in the woods.  My heart felt thanks to you guys.  I’m proud to be in a club with you guys and to call you my friends.

So what went wrong?  When I programmed the Venus I had not put in any exponential!  Not the radios fault.  Secondly I knew they ailerons were way too sensitive.  I should have landed and adjusted them.  Third a little too much self confidence for the amount or rather the lack of practice I’ve had lately.  I really need to blow a little rust off the fingers.

Meeting is at the field or at Kens house if it’s raining  July 13th Thursday 7p.m.
